Alton Resource Library: Evangelism

What is Evangelism?

Evangelism is the work of sharing the gospel with those who don’t know Christ and calling them to “repent and believe” in him (Acts 20:21). In doing so we offer them the love, forgiveness, and life that are ours by faith in Christ.

Four Keys to Evangelism

If the word “evangelism” makes your palms sweat, here are four keys to evangelism that might help you take your first steps intentionally toward those who don’t know Jesus.

Prayer - Unless the Holy Spirit convicts and calls, no one will believe the Gospel. Don’t forget the place prayer plays in evangelism.

Hospitality - Christ loved us while we were outsiders (Romans 5). By practicing ordinary hospitality, we give others a taste of Christ’s radical love for strangers and outsiders.

Invitation - We don’t live the Christian life alone and we don’t share the gospel with others alone, but we link arms with our brothers and sisters on mission.

Testimony - Your story of how Christ saved and transformed you is a powerful tool for sharing the hope that can be found in Christ.

Missions

To speak of “missions” is to speak of “making disciples of all nations.” Though our church supports missionaries all over the world, we should also consider the place each of us have in helping advance the global work of God.
